A preview version of Manjaro Xfce 0.8.11, a Linux distribution based on well-tested snapshots of the Arch Linux repositories and 100% compatible with Arch, has been released and can be tested by users.

The Xfce flavor is one of the most used by Manjaro fans and it's also one of the lightest available. Manjaro comes with a huge number of flavors covering almost all of the major desktop environments and window managers.

“We are currently preparing our next stable release – Manjaro 0.8.11. Why do we need another Manjaro 0.8-series release? Well – Calamares, our next graphical installer is not ready yet. Everybody who want to help with that application can contact Teo as he is the lead of this software.”

“So what is going on with this sneak preview. It is based on our unstable branch and comes with linux314, latest proprietary drivers and a bunch of latest upstream packages. With thus we fixed some issues on automatic partitioning and bugs we found in our last stable release. We don’t expect to add any new features to this application as our focus is right now on Calamares,” reads the official Manjaro blog.

This is just the first version in the new 0.8.11 branch and it looks like we might have to wait a little bit more until a much bigger change is implemented by the developers. In any case, this only means that a new development cycle has started and that more versions are on their way, for all the flavors.

The upcoming Manjaro 0.8.11 will also feature a much better Settings Manager, which should provide a large array of options. The testing images might now say “0.8.11,” but that is just a small oversight that will be corrected soon by the devs.

Most of the Manjaro flavors are actually developed by the community and not by a central team. In fact, the Manjaro ecosystem is so large that it would be very difficult for just one team to take care of all the versions. Xfce, on the other hand, is an official one, so it might seem a little bit more polished than the others.

More details about this release can be found in the official announcement. You can download Manjaro Xfce Manjaro Xfce 0.8.11 Preview right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
