The Manjaro development team is extremely active these days, as the final release of the highly anticipated Xfce 4.12 desktop environment is about to appear on the Internet this weekend, as we’ve reported in various articles, including in a blog post related to the new Xfce 4.12 wallpaper.

The Manjaro Linux Xfce 0.9.0 Pre3 distribution has been unveiled earlier today, bringing more packages from the development version of the forthcoming Xfce 4.12 desktop environment. As such, the latest version of the Thunar file manager has been included, which supports tabs, selection inversion, location handling improvements, and shortcuts side pane.

“Almost one month passed since our last preview of our next stable release, Manjaro 0.9.0. This build ships XFCE most closely to the upcoming 4.12 release. [...] We worked also hard to improve our graphical installer Calamares and our system tools to make the installation and usage of Manjaro as easy and smooth as possible,” was stated in the release announcement.

The Calamares installer received numerous improvements

The built-in Calamares installer also received numerous improvements in this pre-release version of the upcoming Manjaro Linux Xfce 0.9.0 distribution, which can be viewed in the official changelog. In addition, the Pamac package manager received a great number of fixes, and many Manjaro tools received improvements as well.

Furthermore, the Manjaro team worked hard to implement a pop-up calendar in the Xfce Panel, as well as to add support for timezones. The Display settings component of the Control Panel received the ability to clone displays and a handful of monitor management options, and the smart placement function of the window manager has been improved greatly.

Last but not least, aligning of windows next to each other has been implemented in the distribution, replacing the random gaps. You can download Manjaro Linux Xfce 0.9.0 Pre3 right now via Softpedia, but keep in mind that it’s an unstable version and we don’t recommend using it on production machines.
