The first point release for Manjaro Fluxbox, 0.8.9-1, has been launched and comes with some pretty heavy changes and improvements.

Manjaro Fluxbox 0.8.9-1 is a Linux distribution based on well-tested snapshots of the Arch Linux repositories and 100% compatible with Arch. Manjaro is being released with almost all the available flavors and various window managers, and it's getting really hard to look for a Manjaro OS that doesn't have what you need.

Interestingly enough, Manjaro Fluxbox 0.8.9-1 is not actually an official flavor. The Manjaro developers only cater to an official version, and the rest is taken care of by the community, which, in the case of this particular Linux OS, is very active.

Fluxbox is a window manager for X and not a full-fledged desktop environment, which means that it is not actually for everyday users. According to the developers of Manjaro, all basic configurations are controlled by text files, including the construction of menus and the mapping of keybindings.

“Latest improvements include adding Thus, the graphical installer, and full Manjaro Printer support using applications to simplify installing printers and drivers from the menu. Improved settings in Compton will remove occasional issues of backgrounds showing in some applications. We have also added File-Roller for file management and the Aero and Aerodrop mouse cursors in response to requests from our community,” noted the developers in the official announcement.

The introduction of Thus, the graphical installer used by all the other Manjaro Linux distributions, will certainly make a lot of users happy. It wasn't exactly hard to install before, but now it will be even easier and the experience will be seamless across the Manjaro spectrum.

The distribution has been made available for both the 32-bit and 64-bit architectures and comes with a very fancy and interesting docking application, Thunar as the default file manager, Claws mail instead of Thunderbird, and a few other major apps.

Suprisingly, the developers of Manjaro Fluxbox 0.8.9-1 didn't actually integrate all the latest packages for quite a few applications. They probably went for stability and didn't want to have the latest possible application. For example, Mozilla Firefox is only at version 27.0.1, even though Mozilla Firefox 28 has been out for a few days already. This is a temporary situation and most likely the new Firefox will be available in the repositories soon.
