Manjaro Enlightenment Edition 0.8.9.1 RC1, a Linux distribution based on well-tested snapshots of the Arch Linux repositories and 100% compatible with Arch, is now ready for download and testing.

Manjaro has slowly become one of the best Arch-based distributions, and the Enlightenment flavor is the first to get a new Release Candidate in the new branch. It seems that the Manjaro developers are not resting and have released another version, although it seems that the development cycle for Enlightenment has been rather troubled.

“Our community Enlightenment edition has been without a full time maintainer for a while and this showed in our 0.8.9 release. This new release has been given some needed attention and is in better shape. Please test it and report any issues. We want to ensure those interested in running Enlightenment on Manjaro get an out-of-the-box experience that is exemplary of Enlightenment’s beauty & functionality, and is of the quality that has come to be expected from Manjaro releases,” reads the announcement from the Manjaro team.

The developers are still looking for Enlightenment aficionados who are willing to provide the distribution with the attention it needs. It would be a shame if the Manjaro fans and the community didn't get to enjoy a beautiful system because there is no maintainer ready for the task.

The Linux kernel implemented in Manjaro Enlightenment Edition 0.8.9.1 RC1 is not actually the newest one available. It has been updated to version 3.12.14 since the previous release, but most likely users will be able to find a newer one in the repositories.

The Enlightenment desktop environment has been updated to version 0.18.5 and Elementary has been updated to version 1.9.1.

Other packages have been upgraded as well. For example, Pamac has been updated to version 0.9.8, MSM has been updated to version 0.1.3, Connman has been updated to version 1.21, Econnman has been updated to version 1.1, Ecrire has been updated to version 0.1.0-git, Ephoto has been updated to version 0.1.1-git, Firefox has been updated to version 27.0.1, VLC has been updated to version 2.1.4, and Mesa has been updated to version 10.1.0.

More details about the features, changes, and fixes in this release can be found in the official announcement. You can download Manjaro Enlightenment Edition 0.8.9.1 RC1 right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
