14 DAY TRIAL // The Manjaro Linux distribution is among the first operating systems to integrate Linux kernel 4.0 officially into a shippable ISO, which is now available for download and testing.
The Manjaro project has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, but now they have a chance to provide some interesting information regarding the adoption of the latest Linux kernel released, the famous 4.0 branch. It has been made available in the 0.9.0 dev version of the operating system, which means that it will be a good long while until it lands in the stable version, but the first steps have been taken.
If the past is any inspiration, the Manjaro devs will continue to upgrade the Linux kernel during the cycle, so the stable version will definitely bring a newer version than the one available right now. Even if the makers of this Arch Linux powered distro are still working on the more stable and well-known 0.8.x branch, they haven't forgotten about the bleeding edge.
Manjaro systems implement all the latest packages
It would have been weird to base your system on Arch Linux, a distro that prides itself on the fact that it comes with all the latest components, and not to offer the same thing. Sure, you might have some problems with packages that haven't been tested a long time, but where would the fun be?
"So what happened to Manjaro 0.9.x edition some might ask now ?!? It is still there and get updated on regular bases. Lot of work went into the new summary page within Calamares. BlueSystems and the fine folks of the Calamares Team did a great job in fixing issues and adding wanted features by the community. This is a great way to compare both install-medias.
