Manjaro 0.8.9, a Linux distribution based on well-tested snapshots of the Arch Linux repositories and 100% compatible with Arch, has received a new update pack, the eighth one, and it comes with a few important changes.

The Manjaro developers have already released a number of update packs for this distribution and they have used this opportunity to improve the operating system a great deal. Each update pack usually brings quite a few changes, and the current one is no different.

“AMD released a new stable Catalyst (14.4-rev2/14.10.1006.1001) to fix some issues you may have with the new released Witcher2 game.”

“We prepared mhwd to support newer proprietary drivers. MHWD 0.3.901 reflect these changes. Blueman got updatedto support the latest bluez 5.19. We kept Wayland 1.4.0, as any higher version breaks bluetooth support. We have to deal with that later. Beside some LibreOffice language acks, python updates, a newer Cinnamon we pushed also regular upstream updates to this update-pack,” said the developers in the official announcement.

The developers have also explained that Octopi has been upgraded to version 0.4 and it seems that this update is the most important since the project was started, over a year ago.

According to the changelog, a new package list model subsystem has been added, a Tools menu has been added, an AUR popularity column view is now displayed while in the AUR search field, new UI icons have been added, Pacaur support has been implemented, KCP support has been implemented in KaOS, LXQt DE support has been added, mooOS Netrunner, Antergos, and ArchBSD support has been added, and the Austrian language has been implemented in the Qt5 builds.

Here are all the kernels that users have access to from Manjaro: 3.4.91 (long term stable kernel), 3.8.13.23 (LTS maintained by Canonical), 3.10.40, (default in Manjaro), 3.11.10.10 (LTS maintained by Canonical), 3.12.20 (default in Manjaro 0.8.10), 3.13.11.1, and 3.14.4.

The current version of the Manjaro has been a very stable one and the developers have provided support for quite some time. The next OS in line is still a long way off, so users will have to settle with 0.8.9 for some time.

If you already have the operating system installed and you perform regular updates, you won’t have to do anything special in order to get this pack.

It's expected that more updates are on their way, but it's impossible to predict when they will arrive, because there is no precise schedule in place.

More details about this release can be found in the official announcement. You can download Manjaro 0.8.9 right now from Softpedia and just update the system.
