Manjaro 0.8.13 is the latest version of the famous operating system based on Arch Linux, as the developers have managed to release yet another stable version and to further improve the overall experience.

A large part of the Manjaro community is still waiting to receive the 0.9 version of the operating system, especially since its makers have already provided users with a development release that was very impressive and very fast. Until that happens, the users will still get these "intermediary" releases, although it's hard to use that term for the new build if we take a look at the huge changelog accompanying it.

The development team took its time with the 0.8.13 branch, even if the strange version number might indicate otherwise. After four months of work and several Betas and RCs, the latest stable installment of Manjaro is finally here, powered by Xfce 4.12 and Plasma 5.3.1, KDE Frameworks 5.10.0 and KDE Apps 15.04.1.

Manjaro 0.8.13 is actually a big update

The four months of the current development cycle seem to be justified if we take a look at the changes and improvements that have landed in this branch. We can only hope that the development team hasn't ignored the 0.9 version.

"Thunar file manager finally supports tabs and other cool features like inverting the selection, improves on location handling and the shortcuts side pane. On the panel, we have now a popup calendar and support for timezones. The settings area has improved display settings with the ability to clone displays via the GUI and other basic monitor management options," said the devs in their announcement.

Also, the KDE flavor has received a lot of attention, such as the fully hardware-accelerated graphics stack centered around an OpenGL(ES) scenegraph. The team also adopted the Plasma 5.3 desktop, and they have forked the Breeze theme into Maia. The graphical installer has been corrected as well, the fstab module from Calamares has been added, a smaller efi partition is now used, and the Linux kernel 3.18 has been implemented as default.
