A fresh upgrade has been released for Manjaro

Manjaro 0.8.11, a Linux distribution based on Arch Linux, which is also 100% compatible with the repositories of the base system, has just received its fourth update pack and a number of the core packages have been updated.

Manjaro 0.8.11 was made available only a month ago and its makers have already released four upgrade packs. Even if this seems like they have a lot to fix, that's not actually true. In fact, these packs bring some important upgrades for a number of important components, like the Linux kernel for example.

From what the devs have said so far, we can deduce that 0.8.11 will be the last one in the branch and the next one will probably be 0.9.0, and they are already working on it. That doesn't mean that they don't also upgrade the one that's in the wild, and if we take a look at their history, they are doing a great job.

New Mesa, X.org, and Linux kernel packages arrive with the latest Manjaro pack

If you visit the official website of the Manjaro project, you might notice that it redirects you to Git. It seems that some malevolent people took down the previous Wordpress page. The Manjaro team is working to fix that, so until then we'll have to settle with the current one.

"We are happy to announce our fourth update for Manjaro 0.8.11. With this update we have Mesa 10.4.1, Intel driver 2.99.917, bluedevil 2.1, an updated toolchain and xorg-server. We worked hard on Grub2 to fix an issue with early microcode loading using os-prober to probe for initrd-images. For now it is supported by linux317 and linux318. Packagekit and all related packages like Apper got depreciated," wrote the devs.

Manjaro 0.8.11 now supports these kernels: 3.10.63, 3.12.35, 3.13.11.13 (maintained by Canonical), 3.14.27, Linux kernel 3.16.7.3, Linux kernel 3.17.7, and Linux kernel 3.18.1. This latest one is a recent addition and it's the most advanced available right now.

If you already have the system installed and you perform regular updates, then you don't really have to do anything extra. You can download Manjaro 0.8.11 right now from Softpedia and upgrade your system through the regular channels.
