Manjaro 0.8.10, a Linux distribution based on well-tested snapshots of the Arch Linux repositories and 100% compatible with Arch, has received a new update pack that brings some very important updates and changes.

Manjaro 0.8.10 was released June 9 and it’s the latest stable version in the series. Users have been hoping to get a major bump, but it looks like the upcoming release will be 0.8.11. This is not really a huge upgrade and it only packs some updates so a few of the base packages.

It’s also worth noting that Manjaro is one of the most updated operating systems and this is one of the most important features of this Linux distribution.

Most of these updates are only made available so that users can get the latest drivers, Linux kernels, and other important apps.

“Some might already noticed that Archlinux moved on to the xorg-server 1.16 series. Manjaro on the other hand will hold back and keep xorg115 a little longer. We noticed some bad regressions with the new xorg version, so to be stable we use our own xorg-stack from now on. We might merge back with Arch when we think it is stable enough to use again.”

“Beside this decision we updated our kernels once more and fixed samba for security reasons. The coding language gambas3 got another great point-release. With LibreOffice-fresh you can install the latest LibreOffice 4.3.0 to your Manjaro box. We still recommend to keep the current version instead. Cinnamon got updated to 2.2.14, which fixes some issues we had. KDE Framework got pushed to 5.1 which offers more stability and functionality,” say the devs on their blog.

Here are all the kernels that users have access to from Manjaro: 3.8.13.27 (LTS maintained by Canonical), 3.10.51, (default in Manjaro), 3.11.10.14 (LTS maintained by Canonical), 3.12.26 (default in Manjaro 0.8.10), 3.13.11.5, 3.14.15, and Linux kernel 3.15.8.

If you already have the operating system installed and you perform regular updates, you won’t have to do anything special in order to get this pack. You also need to be aware that upgrading the Linux kernel can cause some problems.

Manjaro 0.8.10 has just started its life, so it's very likely that many other updates are on their way. More details about this release can be found in the official announcement.

You can download Manjaro 0.8.10 right now from Softpedia, but you can also upgrade your system with the regular updater tool.
