Today, owners of a Windows Phone 7 device in the United States are able to download and install a new OS flavor on their handsets, namely Mango, yet it seems that not all of them can benefit from the features and capabilities this update brings.

Also known as the 7720 update, the new Windows Phone Mango platform release started to arrive on devices since yesterday, and both unlocked and carrier branded handsets are receiving it.

However, some of the Windows Phone users on AT&T's network are not as lucky, since the update was not released for them too, Microsoft showed on its support website.

Just as rumored a few days ago, HTC Surround, LG Quantum, and Samsung Focus v. 1.3 are the handsets currently receiving the update at AT&T.

HTC HD7S will taste it soon, as the update is now scheduling, while the Samsung Focus v. 1.4 will receive it shortly after, since at the moment the carrier is testing it.

Dell Venue Pro users are not as lucky, since the update is currently in the Planning phase for their devices, yet this is something that was already known, since Dell warned on the matter recently.

All other Windows Phone devices in the US are currently receiving the Mango update, Microsoft announced.

Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon are all pushing the update out to their customers, the same as other carriers do. The update is arriving on open market phones as well.

Microsoft themselves announced that the update has started rolling out, and also warned that the process will go down in phases, and that it will be completed in about four weeks.

Users who would like to upgrade their Windows Phone devices to Mango will have to connect them to desktop computers and use the Zune software or the Windows Phone Connector for Mac to perform the upgrade.

Additional info how to install Mango on a Windows Phone can be found on Microsoft's website here.
