Clients of the MangaGamer, a company distributing Japanese visual novels known as manga literature, have been announced that personal information about them may have been exposed as a result of a computer breach.

The company announced its customers through an email communication that information such as email addresses, usernames, and passwords may have been compromised, as unknown individuals gained unauthorized access to one of their databases.

The notification informed that there was no risk of financial information being exposed because this data was stored in a different database.

The Netherlands-based company did not mention if any of the information was stored securely, protected by encryption, but advised its clients to change the login password to other services if it matched the one used for MangaGamer.

A password reset command will be issued for the accounts of all customers, to eliminate the possibility of unauthorized access.

“In the meantime, we are truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, and we strongly recommend that you change your password on any sites or services which used the same password as your MangaGamer account,” reads the email from them, provided by UK Anime Network.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the method used by the perpetrators to reach the database with the sensitive information.
