Mandy was just 14 when she signed her first contract, after somebody from Epic saw her singing as the opening act for the Backstreet Boys. Since then, she switched twice her record labels, released four studio albums and became a rather successful actress.
But all the things that she accomplished until now (which some of us will probably not do in out entire lifetime) are not that much, when she thinks of it, because they are not what she really wanted to do. Having appeared on the music stage at a time when Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera were the leading teen idols, the people at her label wanted her to sound just like them.
They wanted to make her as commercial (I believe 'mainstream' is the adequate term) as possible, and her implication in any project supposed she had to show up and sing the lyrics that had already been penned down for her. The same thing happened at her second label, Sire/Warner Brothers, where her vision was not understood and she had to leave there too.
Now that Mandy is with EMI, she can finally bring her 'vision' into the world, by recording the most personal album she ever worked on. The tentatively called 'Wild Hope' will come out in the spring and it will show us Mandy, the real her, as we never had the chance to see her. The young singer says that this time she was involved in every step of the project, from writing the lyrics to choosing the collaborations for some of the tracks.
If you'd expect Mandy to sound like any other pop artist out there today, maybe 'Wild Hope' is not for you. 'I think people are expecting the kind of pop that's out there today, whether it's Ashlee Simpson, Avril Lavigne or Kelly Clarkson - and it's not. I listened to a lot of Patty Griffin and Wilco and Joni Mitchell for this album. I think it appeals to an older audience.', Miss Moore said in a recent interview.
'Wild Hope', a material that has been gestating for the past two years, will be her most personal and up-close album to date. That is a promise, Mandy concludes, adding it will be the sort of 'love it or hate it/take it or leave it' experience.
