Mandy Moore was the first actress attached to ABC’s pilot “Pulling,” based on the 2006 British series. Because her character evolved in a different direction as the pilot moved towards production, she asked to step down.

The series tells the story of three women in their 30s still figuring life as they go, fighting stereotypes and having fun. Moore was supposed to play the optimistic but eager for marriage one.

“Mandy is a pro, and has been very patient and accommodating with us,” producers for the show confirm for Deadline.

“As we moved closer to production, it was clear we needed to go in a different direction for the character, and Mandy agreed to do what was best for the show. She’s an immensely gifted actress and we hope to have the pleasure of working with her again,” they add.

In a separate statement, Moore confirms that she asked to step down because she considered that was best for the show, considering the direction her character had taken.
