Following a promise made by Mandriva in December 2008, to create an international committee bringing together their team and the community, they announced yesterday the creation of Mandriva Linux Assembly.

Fans all over the world can join this new venture, whether they are active promoters of the Mandriva distribution, alpha or beta testers hunting bugs or suggesting new features, active developers and packagers, documentation or software translators online or offline, or even members of the Mandriva team of project leaders, developers and webmasters. Already a strong community by itself, given a clear structure and some guidelines, the team can truly flourish and efficiently use their talents.

Mandriva also launched the idea of releasing a monthly newsletter and a mailing list, in order to facilitate submitting opinions and requests for information.

Mandriva proposed three most important groups from which the Mandriva Linux Assembly can be created:  1 representative for each country or group of countries from the Mandriva User Groups or MUGs, 5 "Cooker Chefs" selected by the Cooker Community and 5 representatives of the Mandriva company: Anne Nicolas, VP Engineering and Frédéric Crozat, French Engineering Manager from the French team, Gustavo Pichorim Boiko and Claudio Matsuoka, both engineers from the Brazilian team, and Romain D'Alverny, Mandriva's Webmaster.

Three working groups will form the Mandriva Linux Assembly:

· the MUGs, with the set goal to make communications between Mandriva Linux associations and Open Source more efficient, facilitating the exchanging of distribution subjects and helping users express their needs and propositions · the Cooker Menu, whose members will manage present and future Mandriva Linux distributions; this groups will also be the meeting place for users and designers, tailored in a way to efficiently provide a platform to exchange ideas between them · the Cooker Chefs, bringing together an equal number of Mandriva representatives and contributors, which will have the mission to improve the operation of Mandriva Cooker.
