Mandriva, through Eugeni Dodonov, announced last evening, July 27th, the immediate availability for testing of the second and last Release Candidate version of the upcoming Mandriva Linux 2011 operating system.

This last development release of the Mandriva Linux 2011 distribution contains new drivers, new features, more than 300 bugfixes, and about 700 updated packages.

The good news is that the Mandriva development team will prepare an LTS (Long Term Support) release of Mandriva Linux 2011 by the end of the year!

"Yesterday we went back to work on properly configured environment and as we promised, today Mandriva & ROSA team proudly announce that Mandriva 2011 RC2 is available for download." - said Eugeni Dodonov in the official announcement.

Highlights of Mandriva Linux 2011 RC2:

· Linux kernel 2.6.38.7;
· KDE SC 4.6.5;
· New cursor theme;
· New icon theme;
· New wallpapers;
· Added VirtualBox guest additions;
· More Intel and Atheros network cards are now supported;
· Better support for Epson, HP and Lexmark printers;
· Better support for USB 3G drives;
· Improved Dolphin and KDM;
· Removed NVidia and ATI proprietary drivers from the ISO images;
· Long Term Support release coming by the end of the year.

· February 15th, 2011 - Mandriva Linux 2011 Alpha 1;
· February 28th, 2011 - Mandriva Linux 2011 Alpha 2;
· March 16th, 2011 - Mandriva Linux 2011 Beta 1;
· April 18th, 2011 - Mandriva Linux 2011 Beta 2;
· June 1st, 2011 - Mandriva Linux 2011 Beta 3;
· June 29th, 2011 - Mandriva Linux 2011 RC1;
· July 27th, 2011 - Mandriva Linux 2011 RC2;
· August 29th, 2011 - Mandriva Linux 2011 Final release.

Mandriva Linux 2011 RC2 is the second and last Release Candidate and development versions for the upcoming Mandriva Linux 2011 operating system. In exactly one month, on August 29th, we should be able to download and install the final and stable version of Mandriva Linux 2011.
