Mandriva, publisher of the popular Mandriva Linux operating system, and The Kompany, the creator of Mindawn, a Linux-friendly online music and video service, announced their partnership to provide customers with software to take advantage of legitimate digital content using Mandriva Linux 2006. Mandriva Linux 2006 users can access music and video files at
http://www.mindawn.com.
In
contrast to iTunes and most other online music stores, Mindawn's service supports all three major platforms: Windows, Mac OS X and obviously, Linux.
"Online music is a popular Internet service, but Linux users had been left out until now. With Mindawn's player integrated into Mandriva 2006, we're correcting this exclusion. Our users can now take advantage of an online music and video service that socks!" said François Bancilhon, Mandriva CEO
The website allows clients to perform any function of the system, except previewing of songs. That requires the use of Mindawn's own cross-platform player. Visitors can listen to full length previews (up to three times), in contrast to other stores which only offer short excerpts.
Songs are available in one of two free formats: Ogg Vorbis and FLAC lossless compression. Download pricing starts at $0.99 per 10 minutes of Ogg Vorbis format audio.
