The Spring edition of Mandriva 2007 has arrived today and it brings new software, innovations, improvements and virtualization technologies: "Today Mandriva is proud to announce the release of its brand new distribution that provides up-to-date and freshly released open source software: Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring.". While Mandriva 2007.1 still includes the old OpenOffice.org 2.1 and Linux kernel 2.6.17, we can notice some brand new major components like X.org 7.2, KDE 3.5.6, GNOME 2.18.0, Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3 and Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.

Special features in this release:

? WengoPhone, an open source software developed by OpenWengo that uses the open SIP protocol to provide competitive and high quality phone calls! ? Google Picasa, an application for organizing and editing digital photos, and Google Earth, the famous virtual globe; ? Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring is compatible with the Wii? remote. Users can therefore use it instead of a regular joystick on Linux games! ? Drakvirt, a Mandriva-developed configuration tool to help users configure virtualization; ? Updated and improved versions of the Mandriva configuration tools.

Another interesting feature of Mandriva 2007 Spring is the innovative 3D desktop called Mettise, an unconventional window manager developed by the French In Situ project. Mettise tries to improve desktop usability by giving you new ways to interact with your computer.

Mandriva 2007.1 is available in the following editions:

? the "One" edition is an installable live CD integrating the latest proprietary drivers, available free of charge ? the "Free" edition is a pure free / open source software edition, without any of the non-free packages bundled with other editions; it is also available as a free download ? the "Discovery", "Powerpack" & "Powerpack+" editions, for beginner users, power users and SOHO users respectively, include support, services, a wider range of packages, and many third-party proprietary applications like Flash, Scilab or 03 Spaces.
