Officials of the Manchester City football club believe that the secret database they use for scouting players might have been hacked by a rival club.

According to The Mirror, Manchester City suspects that its database from the online performance analysis system called Scout7 has been compromised.

Representatives of Scout7, a company whose services are utilized by several leading clubs from all over Europe, say their systems have not been hacked.

“Scout7 is aware of the erroneous publicity about supposed hacking of a client of the Scout7 system. We understand that the incident is still being investigated but involves use of valid passwords obtained from the Club concerned to gain illegal access to a private database,” the company stated, cited by Daily Mail.

“The security or technical integrity of Scout7 systems has not been undermined by this incident. Scout7 point out that the security and confidentiality of client's databases has always been and remains of the utmost importance and protecting Club's private data continues to be an integral feature of our systems.”
