There are very few car-manager free pieces of software available for Android operating system, but, to my surprise, one of those few is also very good and easy to use. Developed by Armond Avanes,
aCar does a lot of tracking for your car, be it of its expenses, fuel mileage or of its maintenance services. Moreover,
aCar supports tracking for multiple vehicles and can come up with statistics and charts, which confront the car’s performance. Even though the software is provided for free, there are still some enhancements and features that are only available after you donate some money.
Basically, if you are interested in these extra-features, you will have to donate USD5, USD10 or USD15. The list of new features that will become available to you includes: manual data and settings backup, hourly, daily and weekly automatic backups, manual data and settings restore, data import from various sources: Mileage app, Road Trip app, Auto 3in1 app, Fuelly.com, FuelFrog.com and any plain CSV file (Excel compatible), data export to the Excel-compatible CSV format, as well as full-screen statistical charts.
In case you don't intend to donate any money, you will still be able to take advantage of some of the application's features, such as: Tracking gas mileage and vehicle maintenance; Storing vehicle details (Make, Model, License Plate, etc.); Support for several international units: MPG (US, Canada & Imperial), gal/100mi (US & Imperial), mi/L, km/gal (US & Imperial), L/100km, km/L; Service reminders for vehicles (both time and mileage based), which can be separately customized for each vehicle; Powerful searching and filtering; Thorough statistics of your vehicles at a glance.
aCar can be installed on any Android 1.5 or above compatible device, but you have to be careful if you intend to upgrade your operating system from 1.5 to 1.6 or above. There's a known bug that will lead to Forced Close and unusable applications and data no longer being accessible. To avoid this, you will need to make a backup of your data, uninstall it and do a clean
install after you have upgraded your operating system.
