384 pages written in 17 weeks on his way to work

Some people hate to write even short text messages using their mobile phones. A QWERTY keypad can considerably improve this situation, although it sometimes proves to be insufficient. One man in Italy surprisingly found his Nokia 6630 the most suitable environment for writing an entire novel.

Robert Bernocco is the author of "Compagni di Viaggo" (Fellow Travelers), a science fiction novel. What sets this book apart from many others, as well as its writer, is the fact that it has been written solely on a Nokia 6630 over a 17 week period on his way to work. The man used the phone's T9 typing system to write short paragraphs on a daily basis and then transferred them to the PC.

"Only a few years ago I would have struggled to find both the time and the publisher to enable me to create this book", declares Bernocco. Moreover, "Thanks to my Nokia and Lulu, I am now proud to be a published author".

If Nokia is currently not paying him for the publicity, they really should start doing so. News of an entire novel being written on a handset is quite impressive and a clear compliment for the phone producer. It matters less whether the book is good or bad. What does count is the fact that someone found it easy and extremely comfortable to type 384 pages of text using only their handset.

Not only did Robert Bernocco choose this device instead of the old-fashioned paper, but the Nokia 6630 seems to have been more suitable than similar mobile phones coming from other producers. The story has been greatly discussed, which also means some publicity for Nokia too.

The writer has published his work at lulu.com, a website which makes it possible for people to publish and market their creations. "Compagni di Viaggo" is available for purchase here for the price of USD 17.38.
