Alex Ferguson has finally avenged last year's European exit. Manchester United triumphed in style on their away match in Lisbon. Benfica - the team that eliminated the English side last year with a 2-1 win - had to pay the price yesterday night.

Both Alex Ferguson and Darren Fletcher warned the Portuguese side that things will not go down the same as last year. The Man U midfielder also gave us the "winner" of the match on Monday. Fletcher told The Sun that Saha will be decisive for Man U.

And
the Frenchman scored the only goal of the match, late in the second half. His sole effort helped the devils clinch their first away win in Europe in the last 3 years. Manchester, despite winning the match 1-0, still has a lot to improve on their passing, since Benfica controlled most of the first half.

Moreover, the Portuguese side had plenty of scoring chances before Man U's goal, but the halftime saw both teams level on the scoreboard.

Sir Alex Ferguson was quite happy with the win, especially since Manchester was coming after a 1-1 away draw at newly Premiership promoted Reading.

"It was a good performance from us. We had good patience. The goal was the highlight of the match, it was a magnificent strike by Louis, but it was a good bit of football. Cristiano Ronaldo fed him in and it was a marvelous goal".

"I hope it gives them confidence to trust each other. In the first half, there were moments when we didn't have great understanding - how to defend the last line. And we kept giving the ball away. In the second half, we improved on that. We made some alterations and it made some room for ourselves. I think it made a difference", said Ferguson.

Manchester United is now top of Group F, on maximum points. In the other match of the night, Celtic Glasgow beat FC Copenhagen 1-0 at home and climbed up to the 2nd place. Celtic will meet Benfica at home in the next round, while Man U will host Copenhagen at Old Trafford.
