Unfortunately, all his probation officer could offer him was a shiny pair of handcuffs and a ride to the station

Earlier this week, a man in the city of Albany in Georgia, US, was sentenced to spending several months behind bars at a local prison. Interestingly enough, it appears that, in a weird and totally idiotic way, this fellow pretty much turned himself in.

Long story short: it was a text message that he accidentally sent his probation officer that landed him in trouble with the law for the second time around, media reports say.

How one text message can change everything

One would expect that, when on probation, your average Joe and Jane would be on their best behavior and would do just about anything to stay out of trouble. The thing is that, as it turns out, Alvin Cross Jr. is no ordinary fellow.

On the contrary, information shared with the public says that, not too long ago, he decided to pass the time smoking some weed. Being as excited and as nervous as he probably was, he got mixed up and texted his probation officer instead of his dealer.

As if this weren't enough to land him in trouble with the law, he did not even send a cryptic message that might have been open to interpretation. Without further ado, here's the text that his probation officer received, much to his surprise: “You have some weed?”

What followed wasn't pretty

After receiving this text, Alvin Cross Jr.'s probation officer decided to pay him a home visit together with some agents from the Albany-Dougherty Drug Squad, Daily Mail informs.

While searching the man's house, the law enforcement officers came across a bag containing cocaine, which they naturally confiscated. As for Alvin Cross Jr., he didn't get any weed. What he got instead was a shiny pair of handcuffs and a ride to the local police station.

One can only assume that, since he failed to hide the cocaine, the man only realized that the text message intended for his marijuana dealer had ended up being read by somebody else when the police came knocking on his door.

Never text your probation officer asking for weed

In it understood that, in the aftermath of this incident, Alvin Cross Jr. was sentenced to one year in prison for possession of cocaine and another year for probation violation. By the looks of it, he pleaded guilty to both these charges.

One can only hope that, the next time he feels like smoking some weed, this man will pay closer attention to what his texting fingers are up to. Then again, he could try not breaking the law to begin with.
