The man's blurting out “I don't love you” to his wife was a form of emotional violence, judges in Turkey rule

A man in Turkey got fined not for parking his car on the wrong side of the street or anything of the sorts, but for having the nerve to tell his ex-wife that he did not love her while they were still together.

Apparently, honesty is sometimes best left out of married life, especially if one cares about their finances and does not want to trade cash for the perks of being as open as they want about their feelings.

How does one get fined for being honest?

RT tells us that, when this couple in Turkey finally decided to get a divorce, they addressed a court of law in the country's southeastern province of Sanliurfa.

When first face to face with a judge, the wife demanded that her uncaring husband offer her financial compensation her for having told her that he did not love her.

“You don't have a right to speak. I don't love you” is what the woman told the judge her husband had blurted out at her. She added that this made her feel awful and that, consequently, she was entitled to compensation.

This one judge that the woman first addressed dismissed the case. The Turkish Supreme Court of Appeals she then turned to looking for justice, on the other hand, agreed with her.

Long story, the husband was told that his confessing to his wife that he did not love her was a form of emotional violence and that, because of this, he simply had to pay a fine to make amends for his words.

The reason the man was ordered to pay this fine was that authorities in Turkey are now looking to put an end to domestic violence, verbal abuses included.

The woman wasn't a model wife either

Looking to defend himself, the husband told judges with the Turkish Supreme Court of Appeals that, although it was true that he once told his wife that he did no love her, the fact was that she was no model life companion either.

Thus, it appears that, while married to him, the woman cursed him on several occasions. Unfortunately, the judges considered the man's offenses to be much graver, hence their decision to rule in favor of his former wife.
