Christoph Rehage proved to be an adventurous person when he decided to cross China on foot. He spent 352 days traveling across the country and he never shaved or cut his hair once during his trip.

In an attempt to faithfully document the trip, the German adventurer took a photo of himself every 20 or 30 miles (33-48 km). Over the course of one year, he underwent a spectacular transformation which was revealed by the timelaspe video embedded above.

According to LifeBuzz, the man started his trek on November 9, 2007, his 26 birthday. He walked over 2,796 miles (4,500 kilometers) from Beijing to Ürümqi, and ended his journey on October 25, 2008.

When asked about what he was thinking during the walk, Christoph said “It was just the way it would be on any normal day. Sometimes you think. Sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you worry about passports, dangers, pains, relatives and loved ones, and at other times your steps are light and you sing songs in the desert. Sometimes it is boring. And sometimes you feel at peace.”

Rehage wrote a book about his journey, titled “The Longest Way,” which has become a best-seller. The book is basically a compilation of stories that occurred during his on-foot journey. He speaks about what he felt, what he thought and how he interacted with people he met.

The timelapse video of his odyssey has gathered nearly 5 million views on YouTube, and has gained him many fans.

It certainly takes a lot of courage and determination to start such a challenging endeavor, and maybe a tad bit of craziness as well.
