14 DAY TRIAL // This past Sunday, a woman in the US was shot in the neck by her son-in-law. Oddly enough, the man wasn't even aiming for her. Instead, he was trying to kill an armadillo.
Luckily, the woman didn't suffer any life-threatening injuries. She was rushed to the hospital minutes after having been shot and doctors patched her wound. She is expected to make a full recovery.
As for the armadillo, it looks like, although it put up a pretty impressive fight, it didn't survive the experience. Its armor proved more fit for revenge than protection this one time.
The bullet went on a quest before hitting the woman
According to the police report on this case, the bullet that nearly killed the Georgia woman left the pistol, hit the animal's body and bounced off it, and traveled through a fence, a door and the recliner she was sitting in before finally lodging itself in her neck.
Even weirder, word has it that 74-year-old Carol Johnson was sitting about 100 yards (about 90 meters / 300 feet) from her son-in-law, 54-year-old Larry McElroy, when the man fired his weapon.
Hence, it took a while for the man to realize that he had accidentally shot his mother-in-law and alert authorities. “Just the circumstances, just all the way around, the whole situation was unusual,” police officer Bill Smith said in a statement.
“I really think if they're going to shoot at varmints and whatnot, maybe use a shotgun with a spread pattern with a lot less range,” he added, as cited by The Register.
The armadillo shooter will not be going to jail
True, he is guilty of having shot his 74-year-old mother-in-law in the neck. Still, it looks like the police have no intention to arrest 54-year-old Larry LcElroy or anything of the sorts.
After all, his shooting Carol Johnson was just an accident. Unless the man is some criminal mastermind and orchestrated the armadillo's assassination precisely to have the bullet bounce off the animal and hit the elderly woman.
