Man Shoots Apple Store Employe, Gets Away

The Arlington County Police Department Homicide/Robbery Unit is investigating a shooting that occurred in North Arlington this weekend – an African American male in his 20s shot an Apple store female employee and then fled. According to the police report, customers and employees were in the Apple retail store at the time of the shooting but no other people were injured.

“At approximately 10:15 a.m. on July 3, 2009, an unknown man rang the doorbell at the service entrance to the Apple Store in the 2700 block of Clarendon Boulevard,” reads the official Arlington Police report. “An employee walked to the back of the store to answer the door. A short time later, another employee heard a gunshot. The victim, a 26 year old female, was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the right shoulder. The suspect had already fled the area on foot. The victim was transported to an area hospital where she remains in serious but stable condition.”

Witnesses described the suspect as an African American male in his 20’s or 30’s, 5’7” to 6' with a medium build, and possible facial hair. Armed with a handgun, the suspect was wearing light-colored pants, a light-colored short sleeve shirt, and a dark baseball hat with white lettering, the same report says.

Apple spokesperson Steve Dowling told The Washington Post, “We are shocked by this senseless act of violence and our thoughts are with this co-worker and her family. We’re working with police to catch the person who committed this act.”

Two surveillance videos that captured the suspect as he entered, moved the victim to a non-surveillance room and then ran out of the store are also available. Reportedly, the victim was soon transported to an area hospital where she remained in serious but stable condition.
