It's often said that people can only benefit from having a hobby. Still, it appears that there are some hobbies that can land folks in serious trouble with the law.
Not too long ago, a 36-year-old man living in the UK learned this the hard way when the police raided his home and found that he had several cannabis plants growing in his garage.
The man, identified as Gregory Hippy – that's right, this news is about a guy named Hippy, who was found growing cannabis in his garage – now faces jail time.
The details of the case
Gregory Hippy was taken into custody earlier this year, on May 24, after police officers in the city of Lincoln in the UK paid him a home visit and found 28 cannabis plants in his garage. Apparently, the man was taking really good care of this little babies of his.
Thus, his garage was missing some bricks that the 36-year-old replaced with ventilation pipes in an attempt to make sure that the cannabis plants got all the air they needed to grow strong and handsome, Mirror informs.
Besides, as shown in the photo below, the walls of the garage were covered in white plastic sheets. “The drug experts said there was a strong commercial element to this grow,” prosecutor Shirley Wilson told a court of law this past Tuesday.
Hippy claims he never sold cannabis
36-year-old Gregory Hippy says that, although the police was right in charging him with growing cannabis, he never sold be it one ounce of the class B drug. Thus, the man says that he was only growing cannabis for personal use.
What's more, he maintains that he didn't buy the drug growing equipment himself. On the contrary, he claims to have found it lying around when he moved in. The only thing that he did buy were the seeds that grew to become cannabis plants.
“He says he bought the seeds on the Internet. To his shock, they kept on seeding so he kept on going with it. He says all the equipment was at the address from the previous tenant. He says he was simply doing it because it was cheaper than buying it,” the man's attorney told the court.
Chances are that, if found guilty of the charges filed against him, 36-year-old Gregory Hippy will spend quite a while behind bars. The bad news is that he probably won't get to continue perfecting his gardening skills in prison.
