A Kentucky man has kept his deceased mother's body in a freezer for three years while he continued collecting her social security and retirement benefits, according to Kentucky State Police.

Last month, police found the body of an elderly woman in a Wayne County home and now they have identified the corpse as that of 96-year-old Faye B. Whiteford from Pulaski County, Kentucky.com informs.

Officials believe the body had been kept inside a freezer from 2011 until late 2013 before it was taken to the home in Wayne County, where it was found by officers on April 23, during an investigation about the missing woman.

Apparently, the woman's son, Jon Whiteford dumped her body wrapped in a tarpaulin at an empty house when the home he had shared with his mother was repossessed. The man got scared when authorities began investigating what exactly happened to Faye Whiteford and killed himself.

It all began in February, when the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) contacted the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office asking for help in finding Whiteford, a retired school teacher, and her son. Sheriff Todd Wood began to thoroughly investigate the case after learning that Jon Whiteford had access to the old woman's finances.

Moreover, the Social Security Administration started raising concerns when they noticed that the woman had not made a medical claim in about three years, which was weird given her age.

Police finally located Jon Whiteford in March, when he went to the Social Security office in Somerset to apply for his own benefits. He was interviewed several times by investigators and he revealed he had no home and had been living in his car since his home was repossessed.

When asked about his mother, the 59-year-old man confirmed she was dead, but refused to give details on how or when she died.

In late March, the man was staying at the house next door to his repossessed home, when investigators paid him another visit to talk about the possible social security fraud. During the interview, the man unexpectedly pulled out a handgun and shot himself in front of a deputy.

The investigation continued nonetheless and it was revealed that Faye Whiteford had been bedbound for several years. She reportedly died a natural death sometime in the spring of 2011. Investigators believe her son kept her frozen for three years, and when he was forced to move out, he took his mother's remains to the Wayne County home he was trying to rent.

Since he later committed suicide, there is no one to charge in this horrendous case.
