If today’s the day when you have a hard time believing miracles can – and do – happen, perhaps this story will restore some of your faith: Maurice, a 32-year-old man, has just been legally adopted by Lisa, his once-foster mom.

Check out the CNN video below for all the details.

Lisa and Maurice’s story is one that’s bound to touch the hearts of many: Lisa was Maurice’s foster mom when he was just a (troubled) teen, and they were parted by the system because of “a dispute over spanking.”

What really happened was that Maurice told a social worker that he was eager to be treated like a “real” son, like the two boys Lisa and her then-husband already had at home: to be loved, cherished, scolded and spanked.

He was removed from the home because of this remark.

Lisa eventually relocated after her husband’s death, which explains how come they could not make contact until just recently, when she accidentally stumbled on Maurice on MySpace.

They are now finally reunited and will get to live as the family they could not be so many years ago. Miracles, they do happen.
