Unfortunately, the tree proved reluctant to hug him back, and so the man was eventually taken into police custody

Those of you who are familiar with Hollywood surely know that, when trying to escape arrest, action movie heroes more often than not turn to blowing up stuff, jumping on the back of a helicopter or pulling whatever other stunt is sure to put their pectorals and biceps in the best possible light.

Still, is looks like there is one other option when it comes to making sure that police officers have virtually no chance to trap you and stick you in a prison cell. Long story short, this one other option boils down to asking for help from a tree.

The only problem is that, as it turns out, trees aren't exactly keen on helping people. 50-year-old Homer Stacey of Florida, US, learned this the hard way just a few days ago, when a darn palm tree betrayed him and let officers cuff him and take him into custody.

Trees definitely aren't this guy's best friends

It was on Thursday, November 13, that police officers in the city of Greenacres in Florida, US, were contacted and told that a man living on Lancaster Drive had been drinking and was behaving a wee erratically.

Having arrived in the area, the officers came face to face with 50-year-old Homey Stacey, who was indeed agitated and acting as if he were purposely looking for trouble. When asked to behave, the man started yelling at the police officers.

What's more, he told them that he had no intention to listen to anything they had to say to him, and even admitted that he had been drinking. “Yeah, I've been drinking, so what?” the 50-year-old's exact words were, as cited by the Palm Beach Post.

When the officers told him that they were going to have to arrest him and put him behind bars until he settled down, Homer Stacey ran to the nearest palm tree and grabbed hold of it, hoping that this would keep him safe from being taken into custody.

History has seen better hugs than this one

Since the man was refusing to let go of the tree on his own accord, the police officers in charge of handling this case had no choice but use a stunt gun to gain control of him. As soon as the stunt gun was fired into his ribs, the man fell to the ground. Not at all surprisingly, the tree didn't try to catch him.

It is understood that, while escorted to the officers' car, the 50-year-old told one of them that he would kill him as soon as he was free of his handcuffs. Add to this his behavior when the police first arrived at his home and it's no wonder the man is now facing charges for threatening an officers, disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest.
