Ironically enough, authorities say the woman had all the proper documentation to legally cross Poland's border

In a desperate attempt to bring her back home with him, a Frenchman shoved his Russian bride in a suitcase. The woman was supposed to remain hidden until they crossed the border into Poland.

Authorities at the Terespol border crossing found her and sent her back to Russia together with her husband. Funnily enough, it looks like, being married to the Frenchman, the woman had every right to enter Poland.

Simply put: the couple could have easily made it across Europe and all the way to France, had the woman taken a seat next to her husband instead of hiding in a suitcase.

Who the heck hides their wife in a suitcase?

By the looks of it, neither the man nor his Russian bride had any idea that, being legally married, the woman had the right to apply for a Schengen visa. They simply assumed that, being from Russia, she would not be allowed to cross the border into Poland.

Hence, when the couple boarded the passenger train that was supposed to take them to France, the woman hid in a suitcase. Unfortunately, she was discovered by officers at the Terespol border crossing from Belarus to Poland.

According to Dariusz Sienicki, a spokesperson for the Polish Border Guard, the woman was in good shape and alert when found hidden inside her husband's suitcase. She probably wasn't traveling all that comfortable, but other than that she was just fine.

“The woman in the suitcase was feeling well and did not require medical attention,” Dariusz Sienicki said in an interview, as cited by RT. “If she was just sitting next to him, instead of in a suitcase, she would have been fine,” the Polish Border Guard spokesperson added.

The couple now risk jail time, authorities say

The 30-year-old Russian wife and her French husband, understood to be twice her age, will soon make an appearance in front of a court of law in Poland. Thus, they both stand accused of attempting to evade border control.

Should they be found guilty of the charges filed by the Polish Border Guard against them, the man and the woman, whose names have not yet been made public by the officers handling this case, risk being sentenced to spending up to 3 years behind bars.
