A man from Florida has been honored for donating no less than 100 gallons (378 liters) of blood until reaching the age of 84.

Harold Mendenhall of South Florida first donated blood on July 7, 1977, upon hearing that his wife, Frankie, has breast cancer.

She passed away seven years later and he has also lost his two sons since then, The Palm Beach Post wrote.

Since losing his wife, Mendenhall would stop for a donation while returning home from his job, and he soon started bringing in six gallons (22.7 liters) every year.

“They always compliment me on my veins,” he jokingly recalls.

He makes platelet donations that are crucial in the treatment of cancer, being used in a reaction that produces red blood cells.
