'The pregnant man''s dreams came true

The US press reports that a man by the name of Thomas Beatie, aged 34, has recently given birth to a healthy baby girl. Thomas is a transgender male who became famous in April this year when he stated that he was pregnant, which eventually led to him being dubbed ' the pregnant man'. The birth took place at the St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon and was natural, although some sources stated that Thomas delivered the baby through Caesarean.

Thomas Beatie was born as Tracy Lagondin in Hawaii and during his childhood and adolescence he was part of the girl scouts, won first place in beauty contests and was even a model for a short while. But in his 20s, Thomas decided to have a gender reassignment and although during the procedure he had his breast glands removed, he decided to keep the reproductive organs in the hope that one day he would have a baby.

"I actually opted not to do anything to my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day. I see pregnancy as a process, and it doesn't define who I am. I feel it's not a male or female desire to have a child. It's a human need. I'm a person and I have the right to have a biological child," said Thomas in an interview following the announcement of his pregnancy in April.

The sources indicate that the new dad and his baby girl are well and have recently left the hospital. The sperm used to inseminate him came from an anonymous donor. Thomas has been legally married for five years to his wife Nancy who, apparently, inseminated him at home with a device resembling a syringe usually used to feed birds (without the needle), which they bought from a veterinarian.

"This baby is totally healthy. This is what I consider a normal pregnancy," said Dr Kimberly James of the St. Charles Medical Center during an interview with Oprah Winfrey. Dr. Kimberly is Thomas' obstetrician. "She's really cute, really pretty,'' said another source in an interview given to ABC News.
