A man from San Pedro Cutud in the Philippines has just taken part in his 27th crucifixion, reports say. As I also described, Good Friday is celebrated with mock crucifixions in the area, with men being nailed to crosses which they carry for miles.
The Inquirer Central Luzon writes that 51-year-old Ruben Enaje will only end the cycle when a proper substitute for him is found.
According to village chief Remigio de la Cruz, his participation in the ceremony is part of a religious vow or “panata.”
He will keep it up “for as long as his body can endure,” de la Cruz adds.
Posted above is a video documenting Enaje's 26th crucifixion, in which he explains that he took up starring in the Easter festivities after an accident on a construction site. He miraculously survived a dangerous fall and has been giving thanks to God for saving him ever since.
