The diver only went to the hospital after drinking his beer, media reports say

There's physical trauma, and then there is psychological one. They might have invented hospitals for the first, but, at least as far as a man in New Zealand is concerned, there is nothing better than beer to treat the latter.

Not to beat about the bush, media reports say that this man was attacked by a shark while diving, and managed not only to fight off the animal, but to also pull himself out of the water.

Besides, it would appear that, after he made it back to shore, the diver mended his wound, and then headed to a local pub to gulp down a beer.

It was only later when he paid a visit to the hospital and allowed doctors to have a look at its injuries.

Stuff.Co.Nz says that the incident occurred this past Saturday. The daredevil's name is James Grant, and he is a 24-year-old junior doctor.

By the looks of it, he was attacked by the animal, believed to be a sevengill shark, while diving in the waters near Cosy Nook in Southland.

According to the same source, James Grant used a knife he had with him to stab the shark repeatedly, and get it to let go of its leg.

Once out of the water, he used needle and thread from a first-aid kit to sew up his wound.

While the 24-year-old was busy mending his injury, his friends continued spearfishing. Apparently, they found it very difficult to believe that James Grant had been bitten.

Once they realized what had happened, they saw fit to take the injured diver to a local pub instead of a hospital. “He was walking so it couldn't have been that bad,” friend Jim Robins explained this fairly odd decision.

The bar served James Grant a beer with a side of bandages, and, some time after, the man eventually received specialized medical care.

Despite this run-in with the shark, the 24-year-old says that he will not give up swimming or diving, and that he will be back in the water as soon as doctors remove his stitches.
