An epic marriage proposal was witnessed by shoppers in Cardiff the other day as a host of superheroes, like Spiderman, Batman and other popular Disney characters appeared on the city's streets and helped an ingenious man to pop the question.

Mathew Hill, 28, wanted his girlfriend Jamie-Lee Johnson to never forget the moment he asked her to marry him, so he hired a group of actors dressed as superheroes to help him with his elaborate plan, which seemed like an actual film production.

Mathew's girlfriend was sitting in a café when the Belle from Beauty and the Beast entered the room and asked her to step outside, where she was surprised by a dancing flashmob that accompanied her through the streets of Cardiff in an amazing adventure. At one point, her boyfriend Mathew, dressed as Batman, emerged from behind a group of superheros with a ring in his hand, went down on one knee and popped the big question.

The 22-year-old woman was really baffled by the surprise, but she didn't hesitate to say yes, prompting a burst of applause and cheers from the gathered crowd.

“I really wanted to make something special and memorable and this combines things we both love. Jamie is a dancer and loves Disney and I love super heroes,” Mr. Hill told the Daily Mail. “It was mind blowing when it happened. I sat down in the coffee shop and I made an excuse to leave and then before I knew it I was being stuffed into a Batman costume.”

Jamie and Mathew met at Brean Sands Holiday Park where they both work. They now plan to get married in 2016, but first they want to buy a house where they can live together.

“I'm still in shock. It was really good but I still can't believe it happened,” the young woman said. “I had no idea what was planned. I thought I was going shopping with my birthday money. I got very emotional when I realised. I started crying straight away.”

Michael Platt, Mathew's best mate and owner of costume supplier Party Heroes, helped the groom-to-be carry on the unconventional proposal and said that although it took a lot of work to get all the characters and dancers together, the event turned out perfectly.

“It was stressful because I wanted it to go right and be perfect for them but once it happened it was magical. The reaction of people watching was great, everyone was cheering,” he said.
