This man posted his original idea for a Halloween costume on Twitter, sparking debate as well as admiration amongst users.

The costume aims to recreate the 19th century Spanish fresco ruined earlier this year, which some are now calling the "Monkey Jesus," while others elaborately describe as “a crayon sketch of a very hairy monkey in an ill-fitting tunic.”

The fresco, Ecce Homo (Behold the Man) by Elias Garcia Martinez, was deteriorated after 80-year-old Cecilia Giménez tried to restore it.

The elderly parishioner claimed she was trying to salvage piece, as it appeared flaky and discolored, the NY Times reports.

The fresco had been stored at the Santuario de la Misericordia in Borja, Spain for over a hundred years. As a result of the women's intervention, Christ's nose and mouth appear disfigured, a detail that hasn't escaped the artist behind this Halloween getup.
