Admittedly, there are plenty of things that folks can add to coffee to make it taste a wee more heavenly than it usually does. Still, chances are dead rodents are on nobody's list of things that make coffee positively divine.

Not to beat about the bush, word has it that, earlier this week, a man in Canada had the shock of a lifetime when he found a dead mouse at the bottom of a cup of coffee he got from a McDonald’s restaurant in the city of Fredericton.

The man, identified as Ron Morais, claims he only became aware of the fact that his coffee had one extra ingredient after drinking most of it. His friend, Brad Patterson, witnessed the incident, and can confirm Ron Morais is not telling lies.

“I always take the lid off to get my last sip of coffee. And when I took the lid off, there was a little bit of a surprise in my coffee cup. It was a dead mouse,” Ron Morais told the press in an interview, as cited by Metro.

“Unless I had been there and seen Ron drink all that coffee down to the last drop, I would have been, like, ‘You’re lying,”’added his friend and long-time colleague Brad Patterson.

It is understood that, in the aftermath of this incident, McDonald’s Canada launched an investigation. The restaurant chain argues that, to its knowledge, the establishment where Ron Morais got his coffee is not having any trouble with mice.

“We are continuing to investigate this isolated incident and have reached out to the customer to obtain the product sample. Food safety and quality are a top priority for McDonald’s Canada and all of our restaurants are held to high industry standards,” McDonald’s Canada said in a statement.

It is to be expected that, if the investigation reveals that the Canadian man was in fact sold a coffee cup that had a dead mouse floating about inside it, Ron Morais will be offered some kind of compensation.
