The Japanese man's bizarre daily routine led to the widespread corrosion of the elevator

A Japanese man from the district of Fukuoka developed an unusual habit of peeing every workday in the same elevator for almost half a year. Whenever the man was going through Chihaya Stations, he would relieve himself on the door and the floor of the same elevator.

His habit is an actual mystery, even in court the citizen refused to say why he was doing that for several months. Fukuoka District Court ruled in favor of the victim, Japan Rail Kyushu and ordered the culprit to pay for the damages he caused to the facility.

The man would pee in the same elevator almost every weekday, “while there he would ride the elevator connecting the platform to the ticket gates and proceed to relieve himself on the door and floor in front of him,” notes Rocket News. His determination to keep doing that same routine for half a year is quite bizarre.

Because of the daily urination routine, the elevator started showing widespread corrosion and needed major repairs, including service and material replacing. The estimated amount reached $12,000 (€8,715) and the offender was ordered to pay the full amount plus some extra damage fees.

Surprisingly, after the defendant admitted to his unusual peeing habits, he started proposing cheaper ways of repairing the elevator by considering reused materials. His persuasion attempt didn't work, the judge disagreed and closed the argument with the full payment order, because the reusable parts he was proposing were already too damaged by urine to be fit for use.

Urinating in public spaces can be either considered a public offense or a misdemeanor, but in each case, most states prohibit this kind of “habits.” Elevators are public spaces and the fact that the man actually made a routine of urinating in that particular place and damaging the elevator in time, only makes his offense worse.
