A North Carolina man involuntarily set his house on fire after he tried blowing his nose while smoking a cigarette at the same time.

The unnamed man's home at 425 North Silver St., in the Silver Valley Community, Davidson County, was completely destroyed in the fire, officials have said.

According to My Fox 8, the incident happened on Monday at around 3 a.m. when a man in his 60s tried to get rid of his nasal mucus while enjoying a cigarette.

The Silver Valley fire marshal explained that the blaze started after the tissue the man was blowing his nose into caught fire. His attempts to stamp it out failed, and the fire quickly spread to the entire house.

Firefighters said the building was already engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene, but the man and woman who lived there escaped unharmed. The American Red Cross assisted the victims after the incident.

The blaze was put out by around 5 a.m., but firefighters were still working on hot spots. Authorities are investigating the case, but it appears that there are no suspicious circumstances.

Given that the house burnt to the ground, the pair will now have to look for another home.
