The news that a 30-year-old man living in Coweta County in Georgia, US, survived after being struck by lightning is now making rounds on the Internet.

Truth be told, the online community is no stranger to such events. Still, what makes Sean O'Connor's story stand out is one small plot twist that many are convinced only happens in cartoons.

Thus, media reports say that, when he was struck by lightning, the 30-year-old man was literally blow out of his shoes. Simply put, the strike caused the man to go flying in one direction and his shoes in another.

According to ABC News, it was this past Saturday that Mother Nature took it to herself to try and introduce Sean O'Connor to the Grim Reaper, maybe even get the two to shake hands and enjoy a cup of tea together.

Talking to the press, the Atlanta-area man detailed that, at the time the incident occurred, he was just minding his business doing some chores in the garden. Oddly enough, Sean O'Connor claims the lighting strike happened out of the blue.

What he means is that, as far as he can remember, the sky above his head was fairly clear when he got hit by the massive electrostatic discharge. Hence, he claims he had no way of knowing what was about to happen and seek shelter.

Recalling his experience, 30-year-old Sean O'Connor says he remembers hearing a loud crack. Just moments later, he found himself knocked off his feet and sent on a not-so-pleasant joyride across the garden. Apparently, it took him a few seconds to figure out what had just happened.

“It sounded like a tree falling over. It threw me across the driveway and knocked me out of my shoes. When I noticed my shoes were on the other side of the driveway and I heard the thunder, I realized it was lightning that had just hit me,” the man says.

After speaking to his wife on the phone and telling her about his near-death experience, Sean O'Connor decided to pay a visit to a local hospital and let doctors examine him. He ended up being held for 24 hours, during which time his heartbeat returned to normal.

Not at all surprisingly, Sean O'Connor now feels that he must be exquisitely lucky, and says that, following this incident, he is considering playing the lottery. “A lot of people have told me I’ve got to be lucky enough to win the lottery. I’m going to buy a ticket tonight,” the man tells the press.

To prove that his story is no lie, the 30-year-old man has agreed to share photos of the shoes he was wearing at the time he was hit by lightning with the public. One of these photos is the one above.
