This past Tuesday, Anthony Ortolani, a man who, back in 2012 abandoned his German Shepherd mix on the mountain, was sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation and 30 hours of community service.

Several animal rights activists are now busy arguing that his sentence should have been much harsher, sources say.

However, authorities explain that Anthony agreed to plead guilty to the cruelty charges filed against him and that this led to his dodging prison time and a fine.

Still, Anthony maintained that he only abandoned the dog because he had to make sure he and the teenager accompanying him escaped a storm that was about to hit the area.

As previously reported, Missy, as this German Shepherd mix is named, had to spend eight days alone in the mountains after being abandoned by this man, and suffered extensive injuries to its paws.
