Daughter Pumpkin outs her in Inside Edition interview

Honey Boo Boo and Mama June are putting in the extra time and effort to re-launch the TV careers that stalled when Mama June was busted dating a convicted pedophile and TLC, the network that had made them stars, washed their hands of the entire family.

The former kiddie beauty pageant contestant, now 9 years old and severely obese, is looking into music and plenty of TV appearances, in the hope of getting another offer for a reality show. Meanwhile, Mama June has her own way of getting attention: she just came out as bisexual, in an interview that was supposed to be her daughter’s coming out.

Pumpkin is bi, and so is her mother

You can see it in the video below: 15-year-old Pumpkin (Lauryn Thompson) asked to speak to Inside Edition in order to publicly come out, and it seems as if she accidentally outed her mother as well: “She’s gay. June’s gay too!”

However, Mama June, real name June Thompson, is quick to add: she is not gay, she’s bi herself. “I'm not going to lie, I played in the minors but never went pro,” she adds.

She elaborates that she did “fool around” with women in the past, but things never got any more serious than this. She most definitely hasn’t been in a relationship with a woman.

Pumpkin has, and she even uses this opportunity to reach out to her ex, promising her via text that, if she’ll give her another chance, she would treat her the way she deserves to be treated.

Even though they come from a part of the US not exactly known for how accepting people are for different lifestyles, Mama June says she’s not afraid of going up against their prejudices. Taylor Swift said it best when she sung about how “haters are gonna hate hate hate.”

Smells like a publicity stunt

Coming out publicly in a TV interview is the new “coming out on the cover of People magazine,” which was all the rage a few years ago, starting with Lance Bass in 2006.

Because such an act takes courage and determination, celebrities who do it are hailed as modern heroes by the LGBT community and its many supporters, and they’re showered with praise and extra media attention.

The Honey Boo Boo clan has long showed that there’s nothing they wouldn’t do for a drop of said extra attention. As the pedophile scandal was raging last year, Mama June even tried to play “the cancer card,” saying she feared she had some type of terminal form of the disease, even though she had no medical evidence to back it up. In fact, she was yet to undergo testing for it.

Mama June may very well be bi, for all we know. However, based on her previous behavior, it would make more sense if she was making this up to make us forget about the pedophile scandal and to force us to focus on the next stage of her TV career.

Those who know she rekindled relations with the man who raped her own daughter when she was just 8 and was then sent to prison for it, will never forget.
