14 DAY TRIAL // On Wednesday, Malwarebytes announced that its Anti-Malware product can now be purchased by paying with digital currency, namely Bitcoins.
This payment option is available only for the consumer product and makes Malwarebytes the first and only notable security company to accept crypto-currency.
Apart from the popularity of Bitcoins (BTC), the reason behind this move is also the anonymity of the customer. “Protecting customer privacy is part of our DNA, and taking payment in Bitcoins is a logical extension of that ethos,” said Marcin Kleczynski, CEO of Malwarebytes.
The payment platform selected by the company to intermediate the transaction is Coinbase because of their efforts to ensure increased security of the transfer.
Products that can be purchased with digital currency are accompanied by a “Bitcoin Accepted Here” button. At the moment, only Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro can be acquired this way, but the company plans on extending this kind of payment to other products, too.
Coinbase provides two-factor authentication login, offline storage of the currency (up to 97% of customer funds), in and out encryption of the traffic, as well as AES-256 encryption for private keys and wallets stored in their vaults.
