A new variant has been spotted these days by Hoax Slayer

Bogus wedding invitations sent out by cybercriminals in an effort to distribute malware are still making the rounds.

The emails spotted this week by Hoax Slayer are entitled “Wedding Invitation” and they purport to come from the White Wedding Agency.

“We would like to invite you to celebrate our wedding in December 10th, Tuesday, 4 p.m. The celebration will be followed by a reception. Please, click here for the full invitation text. If the link are not working, please move the message to ‘Inbox’ folder,” the fake messages read.

The links in the emails don’t point to a wedding invitation, but to a website that’s set up to serve a piece of malware.

Variants of this scheme have been around since at least March 2013. At the time, ThreatTrack Security researchers warned that the notifications were used to distribute Trojan.Win32.Kuluoz, a piece of malware that downloaded other threats onto infected devices, including fake antiviruses.

If you come across such emails, don’t click on the links they contain. Instead, delete them immediately. Victims are advised to scan their computers with anti-malware software.
