Cybercriminals are also targeting Samsung Galaxy owners

Users from the United Kingdom are warned about a cybercriminal campaign that’s designed to distribute malware onto their computers. The attacks rely on bogus emails that purport to come from Sky, the British telecoms company.

According to Webroot, the phony Sky emails read something like this:

“I’m wiring to confirm that you have agreed to take up our fantastic 5 BGP off Line Rental (15.40GBP) for 12 Mo nths With Broadband Unlimited (Recontract) – Existing UK Customer. We also wanted to remind you that as part of this, you’ve agreed to re-subscribe to the products listed in the table below for a further 12 month minimum term, starting from the date shown below.”

The emails have nothing to do with Sky. They’re simply set up by cybercriminals to distribute a Trojan.

Experts warn that the same piece of malware is being spread with the aid of fake MMS notifications aimed at the owners of Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

If you come across such emails, delete them. If you think you might be a victim, scan your computer with an updated antivirus.
