As part of its monthly set of updates aimed at providing users with better security on their systems, Microsoft also made available for download a new version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool, along with the June 2012 security enhancements for its products.

For those out of the loop, we should note that this is an anti-malware utility that was designed to check computers running Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 for infections by specific, prevalent malicious software.

The tool helps finding infections and remove malware, including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom, among other malicious software.

Moreover, the tool would provide a detailed report when the detection and malware removal processes have been completed.

Microsoft recommends that this tool would be used on a regular basis, although computers might work and feel as if they were not infected.

However, it should be noted that the use of this tool does not eliminate the need to have antivirus software installed on the computer.

The latest version of the tool adds support for detection and cleaning of new malware, including Cleaman and Kuluoz.

Users interested in scanning their Windows computers for this type of malware will find the application available for download via the link embedded below.

“The version of the tool delivered by Microsoft Update and Windows Update runs in the background and then reports if a malware infection is found. To run this tool more than once a month, use the version [link below] or install the version that is available in the Download Center,” Microsoft notes.

Users who do not have the Windows Update service turned on can download the entire batch of new security updates released for June 2012 in the form of an ISO image, also available from Softpedia today.
