MakuluLinux 6 Xfce, a Linux distribution based on the Debian testing branch, Jessie, that provides stability, speed, and a modern desktop, has been released and comes with some new features and numerous changes.

The developers have already released the MATE flavor for this version of MakuluLinux and now it's time for Xfce to make an appearance. This is an even lighter desktop environment than MATE, but the distro comes with some interesting changes, including a new installer.

MakuluLinux now has a custom installer, made specifically for it, that is supposed to be much easier to use, simpler, and with better automation. The only problem is that the installation process will now take a little bit longer than usual.

“MakuluLinux Xfce now supports the Xfce, Compiz and Kwin Manager, ALL ready to use out of the box ! You can switch between the Window Managers easily with a few clicks by running the Animation shortcut in the Menu Launcher.”

“Not only will the Window Manager change, but all the relevant settings shortcuts will be created with it in the menu, meaning that if you choose Kwin, then all the Kwin shortcuts will be created in the menu launcher that will allow you to configure Kwin, the same with Compiz / Emerald,” note the developers on their blog.

Another interesting feature that is not usually seen in other operating systems is called Random theming. Basically, the OS comes with multiple themes already installed and a new one will be used whenever the user logs in. Don't worry, if you like a particular theme you can disable this feature with a single click.

According to the changelog, an animation on/off utility is now available, the Application Installer tool has been added, Makulu Setup Utility has been implemented, the System Updater Utility has received new GUI Options, the Wallpaper Settings utility has been brought from the MATE flavor, the repository repair utility is ready for use, the easy Application installer has been added, and more.

Also, suspend, hibernate, and resume the computer functions are now available, support has been added for the Asus Eee PC series, the owners of Toshiba laptops can now change the brightness, the possibility to map the Fn-Keys to functions like volume up/down and mute has been implemented, users of Dell laptops now have access to fan control, and a Utility to change the laptop LCDs backlight from the command line has been implemented.

If you like this Linux distribution you can download MakuluLinux 6 Xfce right now from Softpedia.
