MakuluLinux 6 KDE, a Linux distribution based on the Debian testing branch, Jessie, that provides stability, speed, and a modern desktop, is now out and available for download.

The MakuluLinux developers have already released a couple of flavors for this version of the distribution, MATE and Xfce. It was just a matter of time until the KDE desktop was adopted and now a new version is out.

“The Long Awaited update to the KDE Edition is now over, Stability, Speed and Beauty is what drives this edition. This Edition is a special one for me because I worked on most of it while being extremely sick to the point where I could not walk, with nothing but a bed, laptop and time on my hands I went to work on this baby and this is the result.”

“Complete overhaul of theming in the new Edition, far more consistent transparency in borders, panels, widgets, popup menu's. Background theme now uses the same standard theme the rest of Makulu Editions use, therefore you have this beautiful dark charcoal look,” said the developer in the announcement.

The distribution is based on KDE 4.13.1, which is one of the most recent versions, although users will be able to update to a new build when it becomes available in the official repositories. MakuluLinux 6 KDE uses Linux Kernel 3.14.x PAE and comes with full support for Systemd.

The developers of the distro have made some big changes, especially for the main theme, and now it features transparency in borders, panels, widgets, and for the popup menu. MakuluLinux also has numerous widgets, themes, styles, and colors implemented in this edition, allowing users to customize the look of the operating system in great detail.

According to the changelog, Zenity has been dropped and replaced by Yad, the custom Scripts written for Makulu Mate has been re-written to work with KDE, a Dual Folder layout has been implemented for this desktop, the wallpaper changer has been removed, the daily quotes have been disabled, and the post installation wizard has been rewritten.

Also, the installer now has a dual-installation method, the latest version of Wine with full CMST support has been implemented, the size of the system has been reduced by integrating only a minimal number of apps, and a few automatic scripts have been added.
