A participant in the New York City marathon this weekend has dressed up like Jesus, even carrying a cross on his back.

According to the Daily Mail, the marathon involves a 26.2-mile (about 42-km) run on the city streets.

It appears that this marathoner has put himself through a grueling challenge, running barefoot on the entire course.

Other participants in the run have included actress Pamela Anderson and Bill Rancic. The marathon was won by Geoffrey Mutai, and Kenyan Priscah Jeptoo was the fastest among female runners. 50,740 people took part in the marathon this year.

Gawker identifies the holy runner as NYC-based photographer Makoto Takeuchi, according to his bib number.

The number 55-970 was attached to the gigantic cross he was carrying, which appeared to be made out of cardboard.
